Syllabus Checklist

The biggest room in the world is the room for improvement.

                                                                                                                                                (Helmut Schmidt)

Life is a name of change and constant improvement for developing innovative and better-quality phenomenon and products.  After going through suggested ‘Syllabus Checklist for Online Courses’ I have realized that my current course syllabus is missing the details about ‘Student responsibilities’ focusing on homework and other daily responsibilities.

In Homework, I need to decide whether to focus on encouraging students to produce their own creative work or should I ask them to stick to the syllabus outline strictly and just base their required homework related to designed syllabus outline.

With respect to charting the other daily responsibilities of students, I will be required to encourage my students to enrich their learning environment by bringing into course discussion the additional topics like pondering on topic about latest and newly launched educational technologies by getting information from different sources like newspapers, FM radio programs, television documentaries, any films or movie or even from some anecdotes from their personal life experiences.

Further, I can add the details related to different aspects of how I can influences student attitudes and increases motivation by helping in orienting my students about course, which can relieve their anxiety about the unknown factors and learnings of course. Also I can discuss how to establish a nonthreatening environment for my students to boost their enthusiasm for the subject and stimulate students’ interest and motivation for learning this course.

I have added these factors in my change/add list for a current course syllabus. Also I am determined to keep these points in my mind while revising the course syllabus outline at earliest.

Inculcating creativity is another aspect related to teaching/learning either in conventional of online system.  According to Mau, 1997,’there are two different types of creativity: real-time and multi-stage. Real-time creativity is improvisational, impromptu, and spur-of-the-moment. Multi-state creativity involves the passage of time; students need sufficient time to generate and select ideas.

In context of online course, with respect to real-time creativity we can encourage student in an online class discussion to dish out their creative ideas related to any topic by using their available knowledge at that time.

Also for Multi-state creativity we can assign any topics to students and ask them to get and gather the knowledge related to it and then we can generate a course activity  having short time window i.e. less than 60 minutes, we can ask them to attempt any creative writing activity questions related to assigned topics.

Also I suggest my fellows to go through these links for getting more info about this vital issue:
